The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K reads what your TV is showing and pushes those colours out to your
Hue lights in real time, so an explosion washes the room red and a night scene
drops it to deep blue. Four HDMI 2.1 inputs sit between your sources and the
screen, handling up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz without becoming the bottleneck
in a modern console setup.

This is the model built for people who actually game on current hardware.
Earlier sync boxes topped out below what a PS5 or Xbox Series X can output; this
one passes Dolby Vision and HDR10+ straight through, so you are not trading
picture quality for lighting effects.

Setup runs through the Hue Sync app. You assign the lights in the room to an
entertainment area, tell the box which HDMI input belongs to which device, and
from then on it switches automatically when you turn a console on. Intensity has
four levels, from a subtle wash that tracks the average colour of the screen up
to an aggressive mode that follows individual scene cuts, so a horror film and a
football match can behave completely differently.

Worth knowing before you buy: a Hue Bridge is required, and it is sold
separately. The box handles the video and the colour extraction, but the Bridge
is what actually talks to the bulbs. If you already run Hue lights you almost
certainly have one. Placement is flexible because everything is wired — sit it
behind the TV with the cables and you never need to look at it again.

It also works as a plain HDMI switch when the lights are off, which is the
quiet advantage of putting one in a crowded media cabinet: four devices in, one
cable to the television, no more swapping inputs by hand.
