About This Product

Shark PowerDetect Stick Vacuum HZ4000C, Corded Black Teal - Open Box

The PowerDetect Stick Vacuum HZ4000C is Shark's ultra-light corded stick, and its whole argument is that it adjusts itself. Shark builds it around what it calls DuoClean Detect: two brushrolls work the floor together while a network of Intelli-Sense sensors reads what is under them and changes brushroll speed to match.

Two more sensors share that work. Floor Detect takes an ultrasonic reading of the floor type you have moved onto and adapts brushroll speed for it, which is how one pass covers an area rug and the tile beside it. Direction Detect recognises which way you are pushing and directs the suction forward or in reverse, which Shark describes as cleaning in both directions. Neither sensor has a setting to choose, and Best Buy lists the speed control on this machine simply as auto-adjust.

Key Features

  • DuoClean Detect two-brushroll head: two rollers run in the same nozzle, with Intelli-Sense sensors adapting brushroll speed as conditions change underneath them.
  • Floor Detect and Direction Detect: ultrasonic floor-type sensing and directional sensing, both automatic, so there is no mode to remember mid-room.
  • Self-cleaning brushroll: Shark rates the head for pet hair pickup without hair wrapping the roller, which is the difference between emptying a dust cup and cutting hair off a brushroll.
  • HEPA Anti-Allergen Complete Seal: a HEPA filter working with a sealed body, both named in print on the machine itself.
  • LED headlights: two lit strips across the front of the nozzle, photographed by Shark on the head at work.
  • Lifts off into a hand vacuum: the motor body comes away and takes the 8-inch crevice tool or the Pet Multi-Tool directly, for stairs, upholstery and window blinds.
  • Self-standing: Shark states it stands and stores on its own without falling over.
  • Corded, 9.14 m reach: a 30-foot cord and a 5 A motor, so the reach is the cord rather than a battery.

What to Know Before You Buy

This is a corded machine, so the trade for that steady reach is a cord to manage. It is a vacuum only, not a vacuum-and-mop combination, and it carries no app, no Wi-Fi and no voice-assistant support. No wall-mount bracket is included, which is what the self-standing design is for. The dust cup holds 0.85 L, the filter is HEPA, and the unit carries a cartridge printed Odor Neutralizer Technology. Assembled, it stands 117.2 cm tall on a 26 cm nozzle and weighs 4.22 kg.
